Getting Ready for Kindy?

Getting Ready for Kindy?

Ok - Getting ready for school is a big thing - for parents, for children and for the preschool and kindergarten class. There is lots of information available, plenty of people who can guide you ... but where do you start?

Take a deep breath and relax. Talk to your preschool teacher about any concerns about your preschooler. Your preschool teacher has been working with you and your child for almost a year now and will be in the best position to assist you in answering "will my child be OK at big school?"

If you like to do some reading - there are a whole lot of research papers out there - just a few examples are found below - we have even placed a link to find some more!

We also want to support you with the nitty gritty of sorting out all the details.  Bit by bit we will add more information to this page - we hope that you find it to be of interest, support and practical benefit .. yep, we also mean lunch box contents!

The ABCs of Getting Ready for Kindy.

After-school hours care?

Booking your child in early save the heartache of missing out.

MyChild.gov - "The majority of outside school hours care services are approved child care services. This means that families using the service may be eligible for Child Care Benefit and the Child Care Rebate. Approved services must also show that they are meeting certain quality standards. ..."

YMCA - "Quality outside school hours care is important for all parents and guardians. Whether you need care before school, after school or during holidays, the YMCA is the [common] solution [for many of Canberra's Primary Schools] ..."

CareforKids.com.au - has an interesting web-page that provides a good overview of what to expect at an Outside of School Hours Care program.

Spend time every day - reading to your child - OUT LOUD! Reading everything from stories, the newspaper, shopping lists, to junk mail and street signs. Show your child that you enjoy reading, that you find it really helpful and that your day depends upon it.
