Early Childhood School Community Forum
Unpacking the vision of the Early Childhood School Background In 2009 four early learning and development centres will open their doors at Scullin, Lyons, Narrabundah and Isabella Plains. The redeveloped schools will include an early childhood school offering preschool to year 2 classes and other services that support children’s learning, health and well-being. Each of the four centres will have the potential to strengthen early learning and development across the ACT and help to build stronger families and stronger communities, offering considerable long term educational, social and economic benefits – not only for the families who have enrolled their children – but also for the wider ACT community. These have been described as regional hubs, providing integrated services for children (birth to 8 years) and their families. What will they be like? These school communities together with their newly appointed principals, will identify those services that will best serve their region and develop action plans that will ensure the successful operation of the centres.
Aim of the forum The ACT Council of Parents &
Citizens, together with the Canberra Preschool Society, are jointly
organising an Early Years forum to explore the exciting potential that
these centres hold for our ACT community. Representatives from the
Departments of Health and Education will be invited to provide
information and discuss ideas for the centres, and on how they might
operate. Time will be allowed to hear parent views and to consider how
the parent organisations will best work for their communities.
Details The forum will be held on Thursday 24 July, at 7:30 pm in the Multipurpose Room, The Centre for Teaching and Learning, Fremantle Drive, Stirling.
Enquiries Please call the Canberra Preschool Society (6286 2527) or P&C Council (6241 5759)
